Mental Health Support

Caring for someone with a Learning Disability, Addiction, Alzheimer's or a Mental Health Problem is a very stressful and people often feel very isolated and alone.  Our role is to give carers the support they need so that their own health does not deteriorate to the point where they themselves become ill.  We aim to make the caring role easier by offering information, advice and support to carers and to provide a range of services to meet their needs.

We work closely with other agencies and professionals and can provide carers with information that will enable them to make informed choices and therefore gain more control over their lives.

As part of the Partners in Care initiative, a joint campaign of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Princess Royal Trust for Carers (January - December 2004) a whole range of leaflet information is now available free to Carers.  The leaflets are designed to help Carers understand, and cope with the difficulties faced by those they are looking after.  The leaflets cover a wide range of areas including dementia, depression, psychosis, substance misuse, eating disorders and post natal depression.  Additionally, a booklet on confidentiality is available as is a checklist for Carers, patients and professionals in a helpful guide format.

Booklet on Confidentiality

Trust is essential to good care.  Confidentiality issues between patients and professionals, carers and patients, and carers and professionals is explored and recommendations are made for good practice.

Checklist for carers, patients and professionals

It is important for carers and patients to know what questions to ask, and for professionals to ensure that patients and carers are fully informed.  These checklists form a simple prompt and are extremely helpful and informative.
