 Local Sporting Clubs for Children with Disabilities

If your child is interested in sport or would like to try something new, there are a number of sporting clubs for  children with disabilities in our area. You are welcome to go along and join in at:  

Sportability:  held at  Spennymoor Leisure Centre every Monday evening from 5.30-6.30pm

Gymnastics: held at Newton  Aycliffe Leisure Centre each Sunday from  9.30-10.30am

Swim 75: held at Newton  Aycliffe Leisure Centre each Sunday from 3-4pm (coach present)

Swimming for families: held at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre each Monday from  5-6pm

 

Parent Carer Group

The parent carer group continues to meet at the Oaks School in Spennymoor each month.   Parents have been able to gain information and share  experiences of their caring roles.  If you would like  information on a specific topic, or would like to hear a particular speaker please do not hesitate to contact Joanne at the centre (01325 313123) as we would love to know your ideas.

Next meeting will be held on:

Tuesday 31st January 10-12 noon -  Speaker: Dawn Fonderson from Reach Out Care will be us about the services on offer from this provider of support services to families caring for a child with additional needs.

Tuesday 28th February 10-12 noon - Speaker: Clare Alexander from the Families Information Service, Claire will explain more about this free and impartial information service for families of children or young people aged 0 to 19.

Tuesday 27th March 10-12 noon - Speaker: Christine Walmsley, Christine is a dental nurse and oral health advisor and works as part of a team providing dental care to children (and adults) with additional needs. 

Your child does not need to attend the Oaks School, you will be very welcome to attend the group if your child attends another special educational needs or mainstream school.  

Durham County Council – Consultation on proposals to charge for day care services

Durham County Council are proposing to make changes to the cost of day care services and transport and how they will calculate what contribution people will make towards all services that they receive.  You can let them know your views on this by completing the online questionnaire or by contacting them at chargingconsultation@durham.gov.uk or on Tel 0191 3835217.
