Are you a Parent Carer?
Many people do not know that they are carers.
Parents and guardians especially, often do not see themselves as carers as they feel it is their role to meet their child’s needs. You are a parent carer if you look after a child or young person who needs support, due to a physical or learning disability, long-term illness, behavioural or mental health problem.
Sedgefield Locality Carers Centre provides support to parent carers living in the Sedgefield Borough.
Parenting is a very rewarding undertaking however it may also be very stressful and tiring. Parent carers often experience many additional stresses and worries when a child is poorly or has behavioural difficulties. The centre currently supports 120 parent carers and we are keen to meet new carers.
The parent carers service offers:
* One to one support for you as a carer.
* Help with benefit forms.
* Approach charities and trusts for funding for specific needs.
* Advocacy
* Training courses
* Advice and information
In addition we organise an event or activity during the school holidays for the children and their siblings.
